76 Years Young And Still Going Strong!
Stop! Before you read this any further. If you need ANY inspiration or motivation at all. If you want to see something cool watch Episode 11. Then come on back and finish this post.
Impressed? Yeah my dad keeps himself in shape, and he has done it all these years while building and running a big business. Do you know anyone his age who can perform like that? Who looks like that at 76 years old? Ok, ok I am not trying to brag (not really). I know many people will see that picture of him from the late 1950’s (he was a bodybuilder back then and won the title of Mr. Arizona) and think….
“Well, of course he can do that. He has been doing it most of his life.”
Actually it’s not true. There were many periods of his life when he didn’t lift. He even had a period in the 70’s and very early 80’s where he was a marathon runner. Believe me Marathon running is NOT the healthiest exercise you can do. Not by a long shot. He has always come back to lifting though. Even though he has messed up shoulders and could use his age as an excuse. he keeps going.
I have found the same thing with myself. You got to keep going. Exercise and training are cumulative. All those little bits of exercise build on one another so you can eventually look back with wonder and say to yourself….
“Wow, look how far I have come. I look so much better. Leaner, stronger. I walk with an upright posture. My stress in busted apart by daily exercise. Look what I have built.”
I have trained clients who one day say the same kind of things. One woman might say…
“Hey, my butt is tighter!”
Another guy has said………
“My asthma was really bad. Now it is very much under control.”
Another…….
“My energy is so much better now”
How did they do it? They kept going that’s how. Even if they went through a period where they stopped for a while they came back to it. Consistent, persistent effort. You got to push through the door that is keeping you out. There is a room filled with all these great treasures and you got to kick the door, pry it, lean on it. Eventually it will open and once it does there may be no going back for you. You are in that room and you can slop around in there. Lap it all up! Scream out… I did it! If you have then seen and lived what is possible for you it will be very difficult to go back. It will be painful. Maybe not at first but eventually it will. Why? Because you have experienced what you may have imagined and going back to the same old, same old for the rest of your life would be awful. You have grown as a person.
Just my thoughts as I watch episode 11.
Best,
Robert
