Great e mail from John Wood who is a guy who walks his talk. Pay attention because this stuff is gold.

Best,

Robert

“”Amazing” would be the word I am looking for — I’m amazed
that there could be so much confusion over something as
simple was physical training.

Should I do 10 sets or 3?
Should I have my hands facing in or out when doing pullups?
Should I train every day or every other day?
Should I stretch?
Should I do yoga?
Should I do conditioning work?
Should I do pushups or situps?

Hey, everybody has questions, and they ask those questions
because they want to do the right thing.  I’ve been there too.

But in this case, and almost all cases concerning physical
training and questions like these, my advice is to do this:

Pick one, and do it for a months worth of workouts.

After that month, did you get the results you wanted?

If yes, continue, if no, go back and take the other road,
it’s kind of like a choose your own adventure.  This is
actually a good thing since it means you don’t have to make
the same mistake again.

Interestingly, some folks just want “an” answer doesn’t
matter which one it is, so long as it comes from someone else.  ”Yes” “No” “Maybe Later” “Conditions are cloudy”

- May as well ask the Magic 8 ball.

My advice?  Make an informed rational decision about the
training choices that make the most sense, and then actually
“do” that training for a month or two without missing a session.

Time will go by and not only will you be stronger and in better
shape you’ll also have a better understanding of your own training and not have to keep asking anyone else any questions.

Train hard,
John Wood

Food for Thought:

It isn't sufficient just to want; you've got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.
