I don't understand your question? Do you mean for someone who is not yet strong enough to do a proper chin up or someone that is in chin up shape? There are many ways to work your way up to a full chin up without touching the floor, but for many people the progression is needed to get there.
If you are saying that it is simply cheating for anyone then I would say you need to forget the rules you may imposed on everyone and put your coaches hat on. You might see it very differently then.

Best,

Robert

Thanks so much for the info. I am going to order it right now. I will send you a video of myself using the band. It should be quite entertaining!

Hi Tracee,

Based on that AND if you are doing the chins properly I would say the 1 3/4 " would work for you. I am glad you asked because you are the first one to ask the question. I thought I included that info in a blog post. I have to go back and check on that. Remember too that your rep count will need to come way down since these will be more challenging. That's ok though...you can always work your way back up.

 Good luck,

Robert

Robert,
Thanks for your quick reply! I was wondering what is the main difference between the different widths of the superbands? I am on a bit of a budget and I would like to get as much bang for my buck as possible!

I have been working out at least 5 days a week for about 3 months now and I can do about 20 pull-ups using a prop like Jen does in the video, with that knowledge do you think that I need the 1 3/4" wide or 2 1/2" wide? There is a $10.00 difference in price between the two and with shipping we are talking about 55.00 for the wider version.

The website doesn't really tell you anything about what size band you should get, which isn't a good thing. So, if you can give me a recommendation, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Tracee

Hi Tracee,
Don't be too discouraged. Doing a proper chin up can take a while. I have 2 pieces of advice to help you along.

1- Start preparing your strength, tendons etc for the more difficult chin up by doing a steady diet of incline rows. If you watch Episode 13 http://fusionfitnesstv.com/episode13/
you will see the exercise. I am using a jungle gym to do them, but you can use a long towel wrapped around a pole or a small tree. Or when you are stronger you can do them underneath a desk by putting your hands on the desk top and pulling yourself up. Start these at a fairly easy angle (you may need to be almost standing).

2- You can get a jungle gym and the rubber bands at. www.performbetter.com. The bands are called Superbands, and come in different thickness. If you are just starting out you may need a thick band. You can also wrap the band under your butt instead of placing it at the bottom of your foot. They are a bit easier that way.

Hope this helps some. Good luck and keep it up!

 Best,
Robert
