Justice League Workout. The Original 7
Of course its no secret that I love to exercise. The feeling of building strong, flexible, enduring, agile fitness ALWAYS feels great. It also happens to look good too. Ahem……
What you may not know about me though are some of my other “loves.” When I was growing up I ate, slept and drank comic books. I collected them for years and had a stellar collection for it’s day. Of course time wore on and I became interested in other things. Playing drums, drinking, girls,….you know the story, right? I eventually moved to NYC in early 1980 and sold most of my comics. I shudder to think how much they would be worth now!
“SHUDDER”
Since that time I have read certain comic titles on and off. Not too many but Spider Man, Hulk, Superman, Batman, Watchmen, League of Extrordinary Gentlemen, and others were among them. My all time favorite though has always been the Justice League. It was the very first comic I ever read back in the 60’s. So I still pick read it occasionally to see how its going. By the way for anyone that complains that this stuff is for kids. Don’t forget that comics are written, drawn, inked marketed and sold by adults.
As I read those comics growing up I, of course, would pretend to be the characters. I acted them out, drew them and thought about them constantly. I have always had that kind of imagination. Believe me, its a blessing AND a curse! It didn’t always go to well during school hours, but that’s another story.
As I work out and “practice” nowadays I sometimes refer to various comic book heroes for visualization and inspiration. I might, for example, picture myself for a brief second as Superman, while I pick up a weight. So, for fun, I decided to construct what I call the Justice League workout. I call it the original 7 because the Justice League of America (or JLA) started with 7 members. I was also quite impressed, BTW, when I asked my significant other if she could name the original 7 and she got 6 out of 7. Needless to say I was impressed and more enamored of her than ever. In case YOU don’t know who they are here are their names.
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Flash
Martian Manhunter
Aquaman
What kind of “workout” did I put together using these 7 characters? Each one has an exercise designed after his/her special traits. Can you guess what they might be? What equipment (or non equipment) I might use for each one? What the structure of the workout is? Circuit, stand alone exercises or something else? I would love it if you all would contribute your ideas/guesses to what it might be. Just leave your comments. Oh-and of course stay tuned for future episodes of Fusion Fitness TV for the actual original 7 workout broadcast and on the air!
Best,
Robert

Hmmm. These are a good start. Burpees for Superman is pretty good. KB swings for WW makes a lot of sense.
BTW Green Lantern isn’t an alien. He is human. You are right though he is the toughest one to match an exercise up with.
The cartoon only nixed Aquaman, although I seem to recall that he did a couple of guest spots.
Keep em coming!

Hmm. I’ll take a shot at this!
Superman – Burpees. First, they require body weight strength and control. Also, when you are jumping, it’s a bit like flying! I know sometimes I’m dreading coming back down.
Batman- This is tough. I mostly see batman as an agile/clever type. So his exercise would have to reflect this. However, if I’m not mistaken Batman has considerable experience in the martial arts meaning he might favour some type of core training! Maybe side planks? Or a warrior lunge?
Wonder Woman- I just think kettlebell swings for no particular reason. This is an exercise I could see her doing.
Green Lantern- Also tough. Because he is essentially an alien, I’ll go for a weird exercise. Inverted pushups on a wall.
Flash- Skipping or sprints! Maybe scissor kicks!
Martian Manhunter- Err don’t know this one.
Aquaman- Err. Don’t know this one either!! lol.
The justice league was redone as a cartoon show when I was in highschool, and the nixed a few of the originals
. LOL.
This was fun!
