Hi Matt,
Pretty good advice. Please everyone...do not depend solely on your MD/doctor to "fix" stuff. He/she is not trained in the area of optimal health and fitness. That is up to you. How? Finding someone who will work with you on that. Hopefully (in future episodes) we will have people on that can point you in the right direction.

 Best,

Robert

I completely agree.

I like the oxygen mask analogy.

One thought I had while I was reading the part about the doctor telling one that he is ill:

Doctors are great at diagnosing health problems, however, they are not *always* great at fixing them. This is a discussion regularly had by my friends and I (some of us have friends or family that are MDs or currently studying). BMI says I'm overweight (yet I am in the single digits for body fat), and my doctor is not happy about my diet. He would tell me I need more carbohydrates. However, I am energized, becoming well conditioned, and am very fit!

Dr. John Berardi, a specialist in nutrition put it to us this way at a seminar: your MD is trained to keep you at a bare-minimum health, not an optimized state!

So search out the best training and nutrition experts, and go to them. Then when the you-know-what hits the fan with the current economic state, you can practice stoicism your training.
